Consistency is Key: Skincare Products that Actually Work

Dealing with acne can be very stressful, and often times require a specific skincare regimen or product. There are many out there to chose from, so here are some of our favorites that have proven results.

After dealing with acne for most of my life, I decided to take the steps to make a change. I went through many skincare routines before I found one that fits me. A major myth is that when you use products they should work automatically, but the reality is you also need to be putting in the work. I had to make these products work for me, which meant doing everything they don't tell you that plays a huge role in how the product might work for your face.

I started changing my diet by eating healthier, cutting out certain things like dairy and red meats for a little bit, drinking more water than pop, and using silk pillowcases instead of cotton. For me personally, using fewer skincare products helped because my skin can be very sensitive to foreign substances: the less the better in my case. By using products with SPF to help protect my skin and prevent dark acne scars, and some products from the skincare brand The Ordinary, I transformed my skin.

The Ordinary

I started using the brand The Ordinary a few months ago and I am impressed. If there was a skincare brand that just got straight to the point it would be The Ordinary. The Ordinary is super affordable and it is vegan, cruelty-free, nut-free, and oil-free that uses quality ingredients to reduce or get rid of acne.

The first product I tried from The Ordinary was their Glycolic Toner. The Glycolic acid %7 exfoliates and cleans the skin to reduce acne, and can get rid of texture and mini bumps, which is what I was suffering from. I used it every day in the afternoon after cleaning my face and I have seen a huge difference. My skin is cleaner after using this toner and the mini bumps are almost gone. If you do this consistently you will see a difference. I suggest you always do a patch test before using anything this powerful and new. I highly recommend this toner.

Niacinamide is also a product I've been loving. I started using this a few weeks ago, and I was impressed because I had a huge pimple on my forehead, and I applied this serum after using my Glycolic toner, it went down the next day. After using it in the morning and at night, I didn't see a difference at first, but some products take some more time than others to show results The key to skincare is consistency.

Topicals Faded Serum

To get rid of my hyperpigmentation, I used My Topicals faded serum for dark spots, which works really well. This is a brand now sold in Sephora, and my good friend recommended it to me. It is a gel serum that fades away all your dark spots while balancing your skin tone. I've been using it on my jawline for a couple of weeks and it is actually working. I love it.

Everyday Humans

Everyday Humans is a WOC, cruelty-free brand that sent me some of its products a few months ago. I am a huge fan of their hydrating sunscreen with hyaluronic acid. It is very lightweight, and I feel like my face started to glow after using this sunscreen. One of the best things about it is that it's plant-powdered and it doesn't leave a white cast. I highly recommend everyone incorporate this into their routine.

This routine isn't for everyone, this is just what works for me, and is meant to inspire you to go out and find the best one for you. I feel like the products are underrated and they work really well, so if you can get your hands on them, try them out!
